Wieden + Kennedy

Various design/photography explorations I created while at Wieden + Kennedy Portland.

I made pieces for Design Week Portland like Total Shirt Show, a collaborative poster/shirt experiment; and “Is Design Enough,” An outdoor exhibit pasted all over the block outside our office when Trump was elected.

I also made pieces for a monthly “art” display series founded and curated by Simone Takasaki. It was called Series 4472, (44” x 72”) and each month, a different WK employee was featured.

Work for Nike and KFC was not produced, but I still liked it. So I’m showing it.

Design Week PDX 2018
“Total Shirt Show”
I received the line “If you squint, they look like landscapes” from Upfor Gallery. Their task was the shirt, and I created a poster to interpret the line.

My concept was to portray typography as an abstract skyline... so if you squint, it kind of looks like a landscape.

Design Week PDX 2017
“Is Design Enough?”
Design Week Portland’s brief: "We are in uncharted territory. What is our role in the changing political, social, economic, and environmental landscape, as designers?"

The reply from the designers at Wieden+Kennedy was to create posters positioned outside the walls of W+K to have a conversation with the community.

I felt an image I photographed in NYC was strong enough to be its own poster... of a homeless person dressed all in white, asleep next to an American Flag painted on the wall. The storefront awning, without any photoshop or cropping, when put together, spells the word “FUCK.”

“History has shown us the power of design to provoke and bring people together. We hope that these images inspire people to figure out their own role in today’s world. At the very least to remain confronted.” —W+K Portland

Series 4472: “Summer Vibes”
I wanted to play around with how “insignificant” digital moments can be art when magnified and put into an elevated context.

Series 4472: “Sink”
A visual representation of technology being immersed with its enemy, water. Created impulsively with blank CDs piled into the sink of the design studio bathroom, photographed with my phone.
